Kate Sessions Park
This amazing Pacific Beach Park boasts some of the most stunning views of Mission Bay, the Pacific Ocean and the city below. The 79-acre park, which is perched high atop Lamont Street at Soledad Road on the border between Pacific Beach and La Jolla, is named after noted local horticulturalist and “Mother of Balboa Park” Kate Sessions.
Kate Sessions City Park has two separate park areas. The first is a gentle grassy slope which is ideal for picnicking, kite-flying, ball-playing, Frisbee-tossing, and for watching the sun set over the Pacific. This area has picnic tables, barbecues, restrooms, drinking fountains, and a 0.75-mile paved walking path. The other is a section of natural habitat including scrub-covered open space which is ideal for hiking or exploring nature. Many of the trees, benches, and drinking fountains have plaques commemorating donors. There’s also a playground on the west side of the park, near the trailhead.
Enjoy Dazzling views of Mission Bay, Downtown San Diego and San Diego’s coveted sunsets.
On the west side of the parking lot, there is a swing set and two playground structures for the kiddies. Kate Sessions Park is a great place to settle in to watch the summertime fireworks at SeaWorld. Bring a blanket, some goodies and enjoy another fine San Diego park.
