San Diego Easter Egg Hunts April 2011
If you’re anything like me, you’ve started to think about Easter and what you are going to do to celebrate it. Now that our son is 2-years-old I think he will appreciate a large-scale Easter Egg hunt. Being that we live in a high-rise condo in Downtown San Diego, with no yard of our own, I decided to see what events would be taking place in the community.
What I found is that Easter events will be going regularly throughout the month of April 2011 throughout San Diego County. For a complete list of events and their dates and times, check out this San Diego Events – Egg Hunts calendar I found. You will notice that the calendar groups the events by either San Diego Parks & Recreation events or City, County & Private events.
You could take your child to an Easter Egg hunt nearly every weekend in April if you so desire! I’m going to touch on just a few Easter Events that caught my eye, either due to proximity to where we live or because I thought they sound particularly fun or interesting.
The Spring Fling & Egg Hunts at Liberty Station in San Diego will be held April 23, 2011 from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. Highlights of this event include a 20,000-egg hunt, a visit from the Easter bunny, inflatable slide, bounce houses, a scavenger hunt and games, raffle prizes, food, music and more!
For a more intimate Easter celebration, check out the Spring Party with Bunny Hunt at the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas. This event is for children ages 2-6 to visit the gentle bunny, make colorful spring crafts, parade through the garden, go on a bunny hunt and enjoy a rabbit snack. It is limited to 50 children per party and pre-registration is required. The cost is $15 per child ($12 members) and regular admission fees apply to accompanying adults payable on arrival (adult members are free). There are two times: the Early party from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and the Late Party from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
For a more formal Easter experience, there’s the Easter Brunch & Egg Hunts at the Hotel del Coronado. The Del will feature several holiday brunch options from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., 3 Easter Egg hunts from 10:00 – 10:40 a.m. and 3 hunts from 12:00 – 12:40 p.m., holiday crafts and visits with the Easter Bunny! The Egg Hunts will take place on the oceanfront Windsor Lawn for children of all ages, there is no cost to participate and baskets are provided. Easter brunch is $78.50/adults, $34.00/kids (6-10 years), and kids 5 and under are no charge. The Craft ‘Egg’stravaganza is from 9:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m. and the cost is $5 for brunch/hotel guests and $10 non-guests.
Easter Sunrise Church Service will be held at the Balboa Park Spreckels Organ Pavilion on Sunday, April 24 from 6:30 – 7:30 a.m. The sunrise service will feature Christian worship with song and prayer. For more information, call 858-454-7324.
In addition to these great events, Parks and Recreation Centers throughout San Diego county will be holding Easter celebrations, events and egg hunts. Some nearby include: Morley Field Sports Complex on April 23 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.; Pacific Beach Recreation Center on April 23 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.; La Jolla Recreation Center on April 23 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.; and the Golden Hill Recreation Center on April 23 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Whether its a family celebration at home, or taking part in one of these community events – we wish you and yours a Happy Easter!
