New Cenral Library Dome
East Village San Diego’s New Skyline
San Diego’s New Central Library in Downtown’s East Village Neighborhood has changed the cityscape forever, and it literally happened overnight!
What will become one of Downtown San Diego’s most iconic buildings is well on its way to completion as it is in the process of being crowned with a gigantic dome.
Imagine, relaxing in a reading room with specatcular bay views overlooking the Coronado Bridge!
This vision is coming to fruition very quickly, with a scheduled Grade Opening in the Summer of 2013. The Architect responsible for this incredible building is Robert Wellington Quigley, who has already built some recognizable buildings here in Downtown, such as the New Children’s Museum.
This extraordinary facility, features a flexible Special Events room on the ninth floor, a state-of-the-art auditorium, and a beautiful reading room under the giant lattice dome. It is this prominent domed architectural feature that has brought new life to the East Village Skyline.
Being a East Village resident, I couldn’t help but notice the commanding presence of this building, so I decided to take a few snapshots of the progress through the eyes of my Instagram App on my Iphone. Here are the Results:
