Giving Back – Downtown San Diego
The Welcome to San Diego team gathered together last week to pick up trash around downtown San Diego. As a group, we had made a commitment to volunteer 5% of our time on a quarterly basis to community service.
Community Service and Welcome To San Diego
We decided our first project would be to remove litter from the streets and sidewalks to keep downtown clean and sparkling. The entire team showed up for the event at 8:30am with smiles on their faces: Chad, Brent, Dave, Erica, Stacy, Lauryn, Lynda, and me. We met at Hilton Bayfront in East Village, and spent three hours walking around the hotel, convention center, Seaport Village, and getting as far as Park Place in Columbia District. By noon we had collected six large bags of waste and recyclables.
Giving Back to the Community
While the work was a bit grimy at times, we were able to “multi-task” by chatting with each other about everything from real estate and family to current events and summer fun. I am lucky to be a part of this great group of people who share a love for downtown San Diego. Stay tuned for news of our next community service event — we may be donning painter’s clothes!
