Upper East Village Conceptualization

I had the opportunity to sit in on a very exciting and thought provoking meeting hosted by the East Village Association, Downtown San Diego.  The meeting featured the concept of what is to be a revitalization of the “Upper East Village Neighborhood,”  known as the I.D.E.A. District.

I.D.E.A. District San Diego- Innovation, Design, Education, and Art

The I.D.E.A. District is a 93-acre sustainable, mixed-use development in Downtown San Diego’s East Village neighborhood that is driven by a design and technology jobs cluster. The District is a living laboratory that fosters creative and collaborative energy in innovation, design, education, and the arts.

A developer group was nominated to spearhead this ambitious project, and recently they commissioned students from San Diego State University, University of San Diego, UCSD, and The New School of Architecture to compete to come up with a design for the “13th Street Park” within the IDEA District that promotes a vision with hopes for a final design approval in the near future.  This is the first time in history that such a diversity of learning institutions have collaborated on a single project.

The concept of the park would have a fluid design that uses sustainable materials with the goal in mind to create a multi-use gathering place that promotes the overall vision of the IDEA District.

With such exciting changes on the horizon for a neighborhood that is about to go through a major transformation in upcoming years, buyers and investors should look to a few buildings with huge upside potential.
