Downtown San Diego Safety Patrol
Did you know downtown San Diego has a safety patrol? Safety Ambassadors patrol by foot, bicycle, or Segway throughout six neighborhoods of downtown including Gaslamp, Marina District, East Village, Cortez Hill, Columbia, and Core business district. Safety Ambassadors are sponsored by Downtown San Diego Partnership, Clean and Safe Program, and act as an extra set of eyes and ears in our community.
These safety patrol officers are an excellent resource to residents, working professionals, and tourists by answering questions, providing information, and supplying an extra layer of security.
Extra Layer of Security
Safety ambassadors continually patrol, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Some of their responsibilities include providing social service information to homeless, aiding in emergency services, assisting with directions, and routinely patrolling all downtown parks including Children’s Park, Gaslamp Square, Horton Square, and Martin Luther King Promenade. In addition, their constant presence and close communication with local police serve to deter panhandling, crime and vandalism.
Downtown San Diego Partnership
Downtown San Diego Partnership is a non-profit, privately funded organization comprised of San Diego business leaders, working professionals, property owners, and individuals interested in donating their time, money and energy toward the economic growth, revitalization, and perpetual vibrancy of downtown. Partnership funds come from membership dues, special events, property tax assessments, and city funding. The Partnership manages a portion of downtown’s Business Improvement District, and in return, receives some city and state funds for operating expenses.
