The Wild Animal Park
San Diego Wild Animal Park
The San Diego Wild Animal Park is a suburban zoo located in the San Pasqual Valley area just to the east of Escondido. It is one of the largest tourist attractions in San Diego County. The Park features a wide variety of wild and endangered animals including species from the continents of Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, and Australia.
The Wild Animal Park has a semi-arid environment and the topography includes towering hills and sweeping valleys. One of its most notable features is the Journey into Africa tram which explores the expansive African exhibits that feel like the Sahara. The park occupies approximately 1800 acres of land and houses more than 3000 animals with more than 400 different species.
The free-range exhibits house as cheetahs, antelopes, lions, giraffes, elephants, zebras, rhinos, and many species of gazelle. There is also a new thrilling zipline adventure where you can fly right over the animals. The San Diego Wild Animal park also has the world’s largest veterinary hospital and features the Institute for Conservation Research.
