Under Final Review

Exciting news for East Village residents who live in the Ballpark District. The Ballpark Village Project has come back to life after the market downturn, and is now under final review for approval.  The Developer, JMI Realty (John Moores’- Previous Padres Owner) plans to make The Ballpark Village the keystone of the Petco Park master plan.

 If the project wins final approval, construction could start at the end of next year and open in 2016-17.

This exciting project consists of 7.1 acres located adjacent to PETCO Park, represents the largest contiguous and undeveloped land remaining in downtown San Diego. The Master Plan calls for approximately 3.0 million square feet of mixed-use residential, retail, hotel and office development on the acreage. Upon completion, the projects on these properties should represent more than $1.5 billion of additional construction activity in downtown San Diego.

Ballpark Village will create a world-class urban center that will surely bring a tremendous amount of excitement and activity to the Ballpark area.

Homeowners who live in the immediate area will have several more restaurants and entertainment venues to enjoy in the near future.

Ballpark Village Project Details

• Residential hi-rise tower, 36 stories, 402 feet high: Arranged in an X-shaped footprint, the condo tower would offer water views for all units and be topped with a stepped-down roof that resembles a paper airplane.
• High Line:  A third-level walkway stretching about 2,500 feet to connect the tower and the apartment units, live-work lofts and other low-rise units.
• 10th Avenue Plaza: A 12,000-square-foot square would be located opposite the eastern entrance to Petco Park and be surrounded by glass-faced retail spaces.  This will represent a three dimensional grand entrance to the project.
• Grand staircase: A “Spanish Steps”-type feature, a popular gathering place in Rome, would be located along the 11th Avenue pedestrian corridor and provide a connection between the Imperial Avenue entrance and the central plaza.
• The “mews”: These alleyway-corridors line up with the city’s historic downtown grid, extending 11th Avenue and L Street, but are for pedestrians only.
