Tijuana River National Estuarine Reserve
My wife and I decided to take a bike ride in the Tijuana Estuary in Imperial Beach. This California State Park is a hidden treasure. There’s a learning center there that shows what animals are present in the local area. The center offers a variety of hands on interactive activities for children and adults.
There are guided bird watching group tours for those interested in identifying many local and migratory birds. There is a plant garden to wander through learning about what plants grow naturally in California. This is a great place to take the kids and let them roam the paths learning about the natural plant life in Southern California.
There are about 5 miles of walking and biking trails that take you through breath taking floral paths, marshes and prime bird watching areas.
With over 340 different types of birds that have been spotted in the park. The park has more than 1800 acres with over 22 miles on multi use trails. The paths go down toward Monument Park and returns on a trail by the beach. You can follow the river to the mouth where the Tijuana River meets the Pacific Ocean.
Tijuana Estuary Visitor Center
> The park has BBQ rings, restrooms and beach access. A great place to spend the day getting some fresh air and an education on plant life. The folks in the visitor center are very friendly and helpful. They have a wealth of information to share with you if you ask them. Great place to take a bike ride with the family while giving them a learning experience on local plant and animal life.
Let me know how your learning experience went?
