San Diego Artist Grant Pecoff

With the Little Italy ArtWalk only days away (this Saturday and Sunday, April 30 and May 1, 2011), I decided that now is the perfect time to showcase one of my favorite local artists, who will undoubtedly be at ArtWalk this weekend, null. A native San Diegan, Grant has a gallery located in the heart of Little Italy, on India Street, the Pecoff Gallery. It is located next door to Filippi’s Pizza Grotto, upstairs from Landini’s Pizzeria at 1825 India Street.

I first met Grant Pecoff at ArtWalk in April 2006, when my husband and I were in search of a painting that was to be our belated wedding gift from my brother. My brother had wanted to give us a beautiful painting that we would want to keep for our lifetime. So, my brother came down for ArtWalk in April 2006 and the three of us went through every artist’s booth in search of that perfect piece. We were all drawn to Grant’s paintings and no matter what else we saw, nothing could compare. So, at the end of the day we made our big purchase, “null,” a 60” x 18” canvas giclee, part of Grant’s New York collection. It has hung prominently as the focal art piece in our home ever since.

Each year we always visit null and his wife, null, at ArtWalk. We’ve also visited them several times at their gallery in Little Italy and have run into them around Little Italy. They are amazing, wonderful people. We are always excited to see Grant’s latest pieces and hear about where he is traveling to next for inspiration!

In October 2010, my brother was married and for his wedding gift we wanted to give to him what he had given to us – an amazing piece of art. My brother and his wife also decided on a piece by Grant Pecoff – “null,” from his Europe collection. Grant and Layne bent over backwards to help all of us with selecting the perfect piece, preparing a special dedication and shipping it to my brother in Northern California. They were amazing and really added that special touch that made the whole experience exceptional.

null includes paintings from the places he has traveled to and lived in including Europe, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, NYC, Hawaii, New Mexico, California and the local San Diego. The colors and style are brilliant and lively.  What we love about his paintings too is that a lot of the places he’s painted we have been to as well, so we feel a connection to the place and love how he is able to portray it in his art.

Look for his booth this weekend at ArtWalk, stop by his gallery in Little Italy, or check out his website!
