If you’ve ever watched the epic movie, “TOP GUN,” then you’ve dreamed about being a Navy Fighter Pilot living aboard one of America’s finest aircraft carriers. Paying a visit to the USS Midway in San Diego is an opportunity to explore this dream of “life at sea” without leaving port. The USS Midway Museum was a welcome addition to San Diego’s Embarcadero in January 2004. Since it’s inception as a museum, thousands of visitors have enjoyed the museums offerings.
Experience Life at Sea Without Leaving Port on the USS Midway
This historic naval aircraft carrier museum is a once in a lifetime opportunity for visitors of all ages to catch a glimpse of the life of the courageous young sailors that fight to defend our freedom each year. Vistors are able to experience what it is like to be part of a “floating city at sea”, explore galleys, sleeping quarters, and the engine room of the first Navy ship too large for the Panama Canal!
Visitors are welcome to walk about the 4-acre flight deck and enjoy the 360 degree panoramic view of downtown San Diego. Visitors enjoy over 60 exhibits, 25 restored aircraft, optional flight simulators, videos, climb-aboard aircraft, the outdoor café and gift shop. Admission also includes a self-guided audio tour, featuring USS Midway veterans as narrators who bring their fascinating story to life.
