The East Village neighborhood in downtown San Diego is the largest downtown neighborhood and brings with it a lot of energy and excitement.  Make no mistake, even though this neighborhood finds the San Diego Padres Petco Park at its nucleus, there is no shortage of life in the Padres off season.  Living in East Village is a wonderful experience and if you are considering living downtown then make sure to explore East Village condos.

Living In East Village

Living in East Village is hard to describe and I often tell people that it’s like the difference between a Mac and a PC; of course East Village being the Mac.  There is just something that makes East Village a little more cool, hip, vibrant and exciting than the other downtown neighborhoods.   It’s not easy to merely sum up the difference between a PC and a Mac, nor is it easy to give words to describe why East Village is more hip than the other neighborhoods, but I’ll give it my best go and you let me know what I’m missing out on here.

What makes East Village Living so Vibrant and enjoyable?

It could be the demographic mix of young and old or the entrepreneurs, business owners and retirees that add such a unique dynamic to this area.   The integration of high-rise and mid-rise condos located next to hotels, commercial towers and townhome projects that gives this neighborhood its unique blend of urban living flair.  

Of course, great views of the San Diego Bay and Coronado Bridge add something special too. The cool new Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge makes East Village feel so much closer to the Bay, Convention Center and Seaport Village.  With the addition of the Thomas Jefferson School of Law and the new San Diego Public Library, East Village has proven to be a hot spot through the down economy of the second half of the first decade of the 2000’s. 

The Advantage of living in East Village is that you can find everything you really need to enjoy life. 

First off, there are some really cool East Village living options.  Ultra cool warehouse loft style buildings like Parkloft are one in a million.  If you want a high-rise with the best views in town, then Mark my words, The Mark is for you!  How about a high-rise with views right into Petco Park that are so close you don’t need a TV to watch the Padres play ball?  If so then The Legend or Icon are right up your alley.

East Village living offers an Albertsons Grocery Store, a CVS Pharmacy and even a bakery – Bread on Market.  There are pet stores, gyms like Fit and even Yoga Studios.  For the morning cup of Java, there is a Starbuck’s on 10th & Market, Java Jones plus so much more.

Looking for a little entertainment?  

East Village living includes the East Village Tavern and Bowl, a number of night clubs and bars, a movie theater located on the edge of EV and the Gaslamp Quarter, plus close venues for live entertainment and concerts like House of Blues and Sully.

Are you Hungry? 

East Village living offers up  a ton of great restaurants including places like Cowboy Star for fine dining, Cafe Chloe for lunch and The Mission and Zanzibar for breakfast, plus so much more.  Looking for a cool lounge type restaurant or bar?  How about Bar Basic, Fleetwood or The Palm, the Indigo Hotel, or Altitude.

Padres home games are a must, but if you’re not interested, walk over the new pedestrian bridge to the San Diego Bay and hop on a ferry to Coronado or visit Seaport Village for shopping, more dining and lively entertainment.  For the green enthusiast, Island Ave will soon add a bicycle sherry which will add an actual lane for bicycles plus bike parking with locking stations.
